The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has lauded the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Ashanti Sub-Transmission Region for demonstrating remarkable improvements in power supply stability and strengthening customer communication across the region.

The commendation was delivered by the Ashanti Regional Manager of PURC, Mr. Edward Kingston Boduah, during a regulatory visit to Kumasi, where the Commission’s regional team engaged ECG management on compliance issues, system performance, and preparations ahead of a major public hearing scheduled for October 14, 2025, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall.

Mr. Boduah acknowledged the efforts of the Ashanti Sub-Transmission in executing proactive system maintenance, investing in network upgrades, and responding swiftly to customer concerns. “Your commitment to system improvements and proactive maintenance is highly commendable. We are equally impressed with your stakeholder communication efforts, particularly the timely updates shared on the Utility Stakeholders Platform,” he said.

He further praised the Public Relations Unit of ECG Ashanti Sub-Transmission for its innovative approach to customer engagement and public education, stressing that effective communication is critical to building public trust and reducing consumer frustrations during system challenges.

In his response, the General Manager of ECG Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Ing. Peter Fletcher, expressed gratitude to PURC for the recognition, noting that the commendation was a motivation for the workforce to continue striving for operational excellence. “This recognition is for the many people on the ground whose hard work keeps the system running. We are committed to active participation in the upcoming public hearing and will ensure a smooth event with backup systems and standby support,” Ing. Fletcher assured.

He highlighted ECG Ashanti’s ongoing initiatives, which include reinforcing transmission lines, upgrading transformers, enhancing operational safety, and expanding real-time communication channels to ensure customers are promptly informed of planned outages, fault repairs, and service restoration.

The commendation comes at a crucial time when ECG is intensifying measures to guarantee supply reliability in Ashanti Region, which is one of the country’s most industrial and commercial hubs. The region’s demand for uninterrupted power has grown steadily, and ECG’s improvements have been welcomed by both consumers and regulators as essential for business continuity, domestic use, and economic growth.

The upcoming PURC public hearing in Kumasi is expected to provide a platform for open dialogue between utility providers, consumers, and regulators on service delivery, tariff concerns, and future energy sustainability.

With PURC’s endorsement and ECG’s renewed commitment, stakeholders are optimistic that Ashanti’s power supply reliability will continue to improve, fostering confidence among households and businesses alike.
