The 1986 Year Group of Achimota School has officially launched its 40th Anniversary Legacy Project with a sod-cutting ceremony at the historic Aggrey Chapel, reaffirming its commitment to service and legacy-building under the theme “Honouring Our Clergy.”

The landmark event, held on September 28, 2025, brought together the school’s leadership, clergy, alumni, students, and invited guests in a colourful ceremony that blended tradition, faith, and vision for the future of the Grey City.
In her address, President of the 1986 Year Group, Akora Sena Siaw-Boateng, noted that the anniversary was not just an occasion to celebrate, but an opportunity to reconnect with their alma mater by leaving behind a legacy that reflects Achimota’s enduring values and vision. She explained that the group’s decision to focus on the Aggrey Chapel was deeply symbolic, since the chapel has served as a spiritual sanctuary for generations of students. She further highlighted that the anniversary initiative also embraces the school’s endowment fund, cadet training and mentorship, and environmental greening efforts, all of which are aimed at building a sustainable future for Achimota.
Akora Siaw-Boateng also took the opportunity to honour the clergy of Achimota School, describing them as more than spiritual leaders. She emphasized that the chaplains were shepherds, mentors, and counselors whose lessons in faith, humility, and discipline have continued to guide the 1986 alumni even four decades after leaving the school.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, commended the year group for choosing to mark its 40th anniversary with service rather than fanfare. He remarked that the chapel refurbishment goes beyond restoring a building, symbolizing instead a bridge between generations and a statement of leadership defined by contribution. He described the project as a gift not only to Achimota School but also to Ghana’s educational and spiritual heritage, and urged other alumni and well-wishers to support the initiative.
The occasion also drew support from the school’s leadership, including Headmaster Ebenezer Acquaah, OAA President Akora Joel Nettey, and Board Chair Professor Ernest Aryeetey, all of whom lauded the group’s commitment to preserving and enriching Achimota’s legacy. The event was further marked by the participation of co-celebrating year groups, 1976 and 2001, creating a sense of unity across generations of Achimotans. A solemn tribute was also paid to members of the 1986 class who have passed on, acknowledging their contributions and presence in spirit.
In her closing remarks, Akora Siaw-Boateng expressed the pride of her year group in their journey and reaffirmed their dedication to the school. She declared that the Aggrey Chapel refurbishment was their chosen legacy, one that they were offering to God’s glory and to the lasting benefit of the Achimota community.
The 40th Anniversary Legacy Project by the Achimota 1986 Year Group thus stands as a powerful testament to the school’s tradition of service, discipline, and excellence, embodying a vision that will inspire and benefit generations to come.
