The Ghana Police Service has dismantled a violent robbery syndicate that had been terrorizing financial institutions, particularly rural banks, in multiple regions of the country. The gang, which operated across Ashanti, Eastern, Central, Western, and Ahafo Regions, was neutralized following a major police operation that resulted in arrests, deaths, and the seizure of a dangerous cache of weapons.

 

Operation and Arrests

 

Police intelligence and tactical units tracked down the notorious group after months of surveillance. The operation culminated in a fierce gun battle that left three of the armed robbers dead and ten others arrested. Two suspects remain on the run, with police launching a nationwide manhunt to ensure their capture.

 

The arrested suspects include:

 

Akwesi Agyei, alias Cobra

 

Ibrahim Alhassan

 

Samuel Appiah, alias Akwesi Mugu

 

Francis Acquah, alias Preman

 

David Obuobi, alias Wasty

 

Martin Akansina, alias One Billion

 

Nana Yaw Frimpong, alias Mystical

 

Kojo Atingawo, alias Borga

 

Samuel Akwasi Gyan

 

Stephen Sey

The deceased suspects were identified as Kwaku Peprah, alias X5, and one Boozin. Two accomplices — Kwabena Owusu Ansah and Albert — remain at large.

 

Weapons and Equipment Seized

 

The operation dealt a heavy blow to the gang’s firepower and logistics. Police retrieved:

 

14 weapons, including AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, and pistols

 

Large quantities of ammunition

 

Vehicles and motorbikes believed to have been used in operations

 

Several mobile phones and communication devices

 

 

Police say the seizure has crippled the gang’s ability to carry out further attacks on financial institutions.

 

IGP Commends Officers and Public Collaboration

 

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, praised the gallantry of officers involved in the successful raid. He also expressed appreciation to members of the public whose timely intelligence and cooperation contributed significantly to the operation.

 

“The Police Service remains unwavering in its duty to protect lives and property. This operation is proof of our commitment to dismantle violent crime networks and bring perpetrators to justice,” the IGP assured.

 

Recognition and Promotions

 

In recognition of their bravery and professional conduct, 12 officers who took part in the operation have been promoted. These include:

 

Three Chief Inspectors promoted and scheduled to proceed to the Police Academy for commissioning into the senior officer corps.

 

Three Inspectors elevated to Chief Inspectors.

 

Two Sergeants promoted to Inspectors.

 

One Corporal promoted to Sergeant.

 

Three Constables promoted to Lance Corporals.
