The Amansie South District marked this month’s National Sanitation Day with a massive clean-up exercise at Keniago, led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Benjamin Marfo, alongside Assembly staff, the Assembly Member, unit committee members, traditional leaders (Nananom), and residents of the community.

The exercise, which was heavily patronized, focused on clearing heaps of refuse, sweeping and desilting the principal streets of Keniago, as well as cleaning the surroundings of the Keniago Health Centre to promote environmental cleanliness and public health.

Speaking to the media after the event, Hon. Benjamin Marfo expressed profound gratitude to the residents for their active participation, commending the commitment of associations, the Assembly Member, unit committee members, and Nananom who joined hands with the Assembly to support the government’s sanitation drive.

The DCE emphasized that keeping the environment clean should not be seen as an occasional exercise but rather a daily collective responsibility. He appealed to residents to change their attitude towards waste management by embracing regular cleaning and proper disposal of refuse.

“As a government, we are committed to providing the necessary logistics to ensure a clean and healthy environment. I urge all residents to put refuse in the bins provided and avoid indiscriminate dumping. Together, we can make our communities cleaner and safer,” Hon. Marfo stated.

To reinforce this call, the DCE donated 10 dustbins to the Keniago community. He explained that the gesture formed part of the government’s broader plan to provide communities with tools to properly manage waste, stressing that the bins must be used responsibly to reduce littering and promote good hygiene.

Receiving the dustbins on behalf of the Keniago Traditional Council, Abusuapanin and Assembly Member for Domi Keniago Electoral Area, Hon. Oduro Charles, together with Nana Osei Yeboah, thanked the DCE and the District Assembly for the initiative. They pledged to ensure that the bins serve their intended purpose and assured the Assembly that the community was committed to upholding the sanitation campaign.

The event forms part of government’s continuous efforts to promote a culture of cleanliness across the country under the National Sanitation Day initiative, which seeks to encourage communal spirit, protect the environment, and improve public health.
