A tragic accident on the Accra–Cape Coast Highway has left one person dead and 19 others injured after a Sprinter minibus rammed into a stationary truck at dawn on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. in front of the NDC Regional Office in Cape Coast. The accident involved a Man Diesel truck with registration number WR 1546-V, which had reportedly broken down and was parked on the roadside, and a Mercedes Sprinter minibus with registration number CR 623-25 heading towards Cape Coast.

According to eyewitness accounts, the Sprinter minibus was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it collided with the faulty truck that had been left on the road. The impact left the front of the minibus mangled, trapping several passengers inside.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Rescue Team quickly responded to the distress call and arrived at the scene to carry out a rescue operation. Three passengers who were trapped in the wreckage were extricated by the team, but unfortunately, one woman was confirmed dead on the spot.

The remaining 18 passengers sustained various degrees of injuries. They were attended to by the GNFS and the National Ambulance Service and later transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for emergency care.

In all, 20 passengers were involved in the crash. Rescue efforts were coordinated by the GNFS in collaboration with the National Ambulance Service, the Ghana Police Service, and the National Road Safety Authority, ensuring swift medical attention and traffic management at the accident scene.

Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution on highways, avoid dangerous overtaking, and remain vigilant when approaching stationary vehicles, especially at dawn and night hours.

The deceased has not yet been publicly identified, as family members are being informed. Investigations by the police are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
