A chilling road accident at Dichemso Plaza in the Kumasi Metropolis on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, has left residents in shock after a commercial Urvan bus carrying nursing students collided with a school bus, leaving several injured and four in critical condition.
The Urvan bus, with registration number AS-9840-10, was transporting 15 nursing students when it violently crashed into a school bus registered GS-3743-22. Fortunately, the school bus had no pupils on board at the time of the incident, preventing an even deadlier tragedy.
According to eyewitness accounts, the collision was so severe that victims were trapped inside the damaged vehicle. One of the students suffered a severed leg, while three others lost consciousness immediately due to the impact. “The scene was terrifying. People were screaming and crying for help. We rushed to pull the students out before the ambulance arrived,” one eyewitness narrated.
Emergency services, including the police and health officials, quickly responded to the distress call. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, where they are currently receiving treatment. Medical staff have confirmed that four victims remain in critical condition and are under intensive care.
The police, who arrived at the accident scene, ensured the free flow of traffic while launching investigations into the cause of the crash. Though the exact cause is yet to be established, authorities suspect overspeeding and reckless driving as possible contributing factors.
The horrific accident has sparked renewed public concern over road safety in Kumasi and other busy urban centers. Residents lamented the increasing number of road accidents in the city and called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, improved driver discipline, and the installation of speed control measures in accident-prone areas.
As families and loved ones of the nursing students anxiously await updates from the hospitals, the incident stands as a stark reminder of the dangers on Ghana’s roads and the need for heightened vigilance and responsibility among drivers.
