Asanko Gold Ghana confirms fatal clash at Mpatuam Mining Site, vows full cooperation with authorities

Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd. has confirmed a fatal incident that occurred on its concession near Mpatuam in the Amansie South District on September 9, 2025, involving a violent confrontation between military personnel and local residents.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the company stated that the military personnel were part of a state-mandated security arrangement coordinated through the Ghana Chamber of Mines.
According to the statement, tensions escalated when members of the community attacked military camps and invaded operational areas of the mine, resulting in the death of one individual and the destruction of contractor equipment.
βThe Company shares in the community’s grief over the tragic loss of life and extends its heartfelt condolences to the affected families during this difficult time,β the statement read.
Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd. added that it is working closely with local authorities, government officials, and community leaders to address the situation and ensure calm is restored.
Management emphasized its commitment to maintaining dialogue with all stakeholders and pledged full cooperation as investigations continue.
The company assured the public that further updates will be provided once investigations are completed, as it aims to foster transparency and accountability in handling the matter.
