A native of Manso Dome-Keniago in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, Mr. Ibrahim Boateng, has taken a bold step to address healthcare challenges in his hometown by personally funding the construction of a new health facility. The project, which is aimed at supporting pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children, is expected to transform access to healthcare in the community and its surrounding areas.

Mr. Boateng revealed that his decision to embark on the project was influenced by the difficult conditions he witnessed during a visit to the community health center. He recalled seeing women forced to wait under trees for healthcare services due to the limited space at the facility. After making further inquiries, he learned that the project was initially started by another native of Dawusao but had stalled due to financial difficulties. Motivated by the need to provide a safe and comfortable environment for mothers and children, he resolved to continue and complete the initiative.

In an interview, he explained that every aspect of the construction has been funded from his own pocket without any external assistance. He emphasized that his commitment is not for personal or family gain but rather an expression of his love for the community that raised him. He expressed hope that with God’s continued strength and blessings, this would not be the last project he undertakes for the people of Manso Dome-Keniago.

The ongoing construction includes a maternity block, a modern washroom, and a urinal facility to enhance sanitation and convenience for patients and staff. Mr. Boateng called on others, particularly those who have benefited from the district’s natural resources, to emulate his example and give back to their communities. He credited his inspiration to his employer, Mr. Kwaku Abonee, popularly known as Osama, whose generosity and philanthropy have motivated him to invest in development projects.

Staff at the health center have expressed profound gratitude to Mr. Boateng for his efforts, describing his support as timely and commendable. Enrolled Nurse Ms. Agyemang Dua, speaking on behalf of the staff, revealed that the facility is struggling with several challenges that affect service delivery. She highlighted the lack of a reliable power supply as a major issue, explaining that they are often forced to deliver babies under torchlight when the electricity goes off, as there is no generator or solar backup.

She also raised concerns about overcrowding and inadequate resources, noting that the clinic struggles to accommodate the high number of maternity cases it handles. Beds, medical equipment, and other essential logistics are in short supply, further complicating their work. Ms. Dua appealed to non-governmental organizations, businesses, traditional authorities, and well-meaning individuals to complement Mr. Boateng’s efforts and help upgrade the facility to meet the growing healthcare demands of the community.

The people of Manso Dome-Keniago believe that the completion of this project will be a turning point in maternal and child healthcare delivery in the area. With the new maternity block and improved facilities, expectant mothers and their babies will no longer have to endure unsafe conditions, and healthcare workers will be better equipped to serve the community effectively.
