MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its role as a trailblazer in education-focused corporate social responsibility by awarding full scholarships to 500 outstanding students and teachers across the country through its flagship Bright Scholarship Awards. The 2025/2026 edition of the prestigious program, held on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Faculty of Law Auditorium of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, showcased not only academic excellence but also inclusivity and equity, with 33 differently abled students receiving support to pursue their educational dreams.

Since its relaunch in 2018, the Bright Scholarship has supported 720 students nationwide, fully covering tuition, accommodation, and providing stipends for books and other essentials. The program has become a symbol of hope for thousands of young Ghanaians, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, and has produced inspiring results. Among its beneficiaries are ten valedictorians and best graduating students, 520 First Class Honours graduates, and 94 students who graduated with Second Class Upper Division degrees in various fields.

Speaking on behalf of MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, the General Manager for Sustainability and Shared Value, Dr. Isaac Mate, highlighted MTN’s unwavering commitment to building human capital and creating opportunities for all. He announced the company’s plan to expand the scholarship initiative over the next three years to cover 1,500 beneficiaries, with a strong focus on students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), vocational and technical education, as well as teachers upgrading their professional qualifications.

“The Bright Scholarship is about more than financial support; it’s about breaking barriers and empowering future leaders to transform their communities,” Dr. Mate emphasized. He added that MTN’s vision is to create an inclusive platform where no student is left behind, regardless of background, disability, or financial challenges.

The 2025 edition of the Bright Scholarship saw an impressive 3,691 applications submitted from across Ghana, reflecting the scheme’s popularity and credibility. Out of these, 1,200 applicants were shortlisted for interviews, culminating in the selection of 500 awardees from 42 public institutions. This year’s cohort includes 300 undergraduate students enrolled in STEM, vocational, and technical programs, as well as 200 teachers furthering their education at public universities. With 33 differently abled recipients, 187 female awardees, and 313 male beneficiaries, the program reflects MTN’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity.

The ceremony, attended by dignitaries and key stakeholders in education, was graced by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene. He commended MTN for its bold efforts to create equal opportunities in education, especially its deliberate inclusion of differently abled students. “MTN is not only providing access to education but is also addressing some of the deep-seated inequalities in our society. This scholarship scheme is a shining example of private-sector leadership in nation-building,” he stated.

Emotions ran high as several beneficiaries shared personal stories of struggle and triumph. Many expressed heartfelt gratitude to MTN Ghana for lifting the financial burdens that had previously threatened to derail their dreams. Their testimonies painted a vivid picture of how the Bright Scholarship has transformed lives and given hope to families across the country.

Since its inception, the Bright Scholarship Awards have gone beyond being a corporate initiative to becoming a movement of empowerment, equity, and inclusion. MTN’s decision to scale up the program over the next three years reinforces its belief that education is a powerful tool for bridging socio-economic divides and building a prosperous nation.

As the ceremony concluded, the atmosphere was filled with optimism and inspiration. The 500 awardees, representing diverse regions, fields of study, and personal journeys, stood as a testament to the transformative impact of MTN’s investment in education. The inclusion of differently abled beneficiaries in this year’s program signals a strong message: opportunity is for all, and with support, every student can rise to greatness.

With this bold and inclusive vision, MTN Ghana’s Bright Scholarship continues to break barriers and light the path for the next generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers, solidifying the company’s legacy as a true partner in Ghana’s educational and national development journey.
