MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Ghana’s digital transformation with a fresh investment of USD 245 million in 2025 to strengthen network infrastructure and expand connectivity nationwide, with a particular focus on the Ashanti Region. The announcement was made at a media stakeholder forum held at the Lancaster Hotel in Kumasi, where the company reignited momentum behind its Ambition 2025 strategy, a framework anchored in digital innovation, environmental sustainability and customer-focused growth.

Speaking at the forum, MTN Ghana’s Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer, Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, explained that the Ambition 2025 agenda, launched in 2021, is firmly rooted in environmental, social and governance principles. She said MTN has positioned itself to do more in the Ashanti Region while ensuring that operations are embedded in environmental, social and developmental advancements. She further emphasized that the company’s approach is designed to guarantee that communities are not negatively affected by its activities, stressing that MTN strives to be ethical in its dealings, enhance capacity, expand coverage, deliver quality services and build a resilient business for the future.

The investment of USD 245 million in 2025 forms part of MTN Ghana’s broader USD 1 billion five-year investment pledge, which the company says is on track. Already, USD 240 million has been earmarked specifically for network expansion in 2025 to improve service delivery and bridge connectivity gaps. Earlier this year, in May, MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, reaffirmed this commitment, expressing confidence in Ghana’s digital economy and urging the private sector to collaborate in advancing the nation’s digital transformation.

The company’s ambitious rollout is backed by a solid financial performance. In 2024, MTN Ghana posted a 26.3 percent year-on-year profit increase, recording GH₵5.028 billion in profit, which provides the financial strength to sustain both operational expansion and shareholder returns.

With the Ashanti Region being a vital hub for the company, MTN’s stakeholder engagement in Kumasi underscored its intent to prioritize digital inclusion and sustainable growth in the area. Media practitioners who participated in the event welcomed the move, describing it as timely and transformative. News Editor Michael Ofosu-Afriyie, for instance, observed that the significant capital injection, coupled with the company’s ESG focus, positions MTN not only as a telecom provider but also as a development partner in Ghana’s broader digital transformation.

By accelerating its Ambition 2025 strategy, MTN Ghana is sending a clear signal of intent to remain not only the leading telecom operator in the country but also a catalyst for national development. With ESG principles at the core of its operations and bold financial commitments driving its goals, the company is positioning itself to deliver a connected, inclusive and sustainable digital future for Ghana.
