MTN Ghana Takes Customer Education to Underserved Donkorkrom, Promotes MoMo Safety

MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to customer education and digital inclusion by organizing a high-impact community engagement forum in Donkorkrom, a rural town in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District of the Eastern Region. The event aimed at educating residents on the safe use of Mobile Money (MoMo) services, digital tools, and providing updates on MTN’s ongoing efforts to improve network service in the area.

The forum was part of MTN Ghana’s nationwide initiative to reach underserved communities with vital information on digital and financial services, while also listening to customer feedback to guide the company’s investment decisions and service improvements.

Residents of Donkorkrom turned out in large numbers to participate in the interactive session, which focused heavily on MoMo fraud awareness. MTN officials used real-life scenarios to explain how fraudsters operate and demonstrated how customers can detect and report suspicious activity.

Mrs. Georgina Fiagbenu, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at MTN Ghana, led the team and emphasized the importance of customer safety in the growing digital space. “Digital financial services are transforming lives, but they come with risks. Education is the most powerful tool we have to fight MoMo fraud. This engagement in Donkorkrom is part of our commitment to ensure that every customer—no matter where they live—is empowered to use our services safely,” she stated.

She noted that MTN Ghana is investing significantly in improving network coverage and service reliability in Donkorkrom and surrounding communities. “We are listening to you, and we are acting. Your feedback today will guide how we serve you better,” she added.

The District Chief Executive of Kwahu Afram Plains North, Hon. Kate Mawusi, expressed appreciation to MTN Ghana for extending its outreach efforts to her district. “Bringing this kind of educational initiative to Donkorkrom shows MTN’s dedication to the people of Ghana. Often, rural communities like ours are left out of corporate programs, but today, MTN has proven otherwise. We hope this is just the beginning of deeper collaboration,” she remarked.

Equally moved by the initiative was Nana Akuamoah Boateng, Chief of Donkorkrom, who commended MTN Ghana for being the first major corporate entity to engage directly with the community in such a comprehensive and educational manner. “This is a historic moment for us. MTN is not just here to sell a product—they are here to teach, to listen, and to partner with us. We are grateful and hope this partnership grows stronger,” he said.

During the event, MTN representatives introduced participants to digital tools and services that could enhance their businesses and everyday lives. These included mobile banking applications, merchant payment platforms, and self-service options that reduce dependency on service centers.

The residents enthusiastically engaged the MTN team with questions about service delivery, challenges with network strength, and concerns about the increasing cases of mobile money fraud. Many expressed relief and appreciation for the practical tips shared and pledged to help spread the knowledge throughout their neighborhoods.

Donkorkrom, despite being geographically remote, is fast developing and has seen increasing demand for reliable digital services. MTN Ghana’s decision to host the forum there was informed by its commitment to ensuring that even hard-to-reach communities are not excluded from the benefits of digital technology.

This community engagement is part of a long-standing tradition by MTN Ghana to hold face-to-face sessions across the country, aimed at educating customers, strengthening trust, and ensuring transparent, responsive service delivery.

As MTN continues to lead the telecommunications industry in Ghana, its presence in Donkorkrom serves as a powerful reminder that true customer care goes beyond connectivity—it includes community, education, and empowerment.
