Effiduase SHS Headmistress Appeals for Urgent Infrastructure Support, Warns Teachers Against WASSCE Malpractice

The Headmistress of Effiduase Senior High Commercial School (EFFISCO) in the Ashanti Region, Madam Olivia Owusu, has made a passionate appeal to the government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and alumni of the school to come to the institution’s aid by providing much-needed infrastructure to improve academic and residential life on campus.
In an exclusive interview with newsmen at the school premises today, Madam Owusu highlighted the pressing infrastructural challenges facing the school, lamenting that the current facilities are woefully inadequate for the student population.
According to her, the school urgently requires the construction of a 16-unit classroom block to ease congestion and ensure that all students are comfortably accommodated during lesson hours. She further disclosed that the lack of adequate classroom space often leads to overcrowding, which negatively affects effective teaching and learning.
Touching on residential facilities, Madam Owusu revealed that the school’s dormitories are overstretched, making it difficult to offer a comfortable boarding experience for students. She, therefore, called for the construction of additional dormitory blocks to support the school’s growing student population.
She also appealed for the expansion of the school’s assembly hall, explaining that the current size is too small to host the entire student body and staff for important events and gatherings. “An enlarged assembly hall will greatly enhance the smooth organization of school programs, especially as the student population continues to rise,” she stated.
Another pressing issue raised by the headmistress was the school’s poor road infrastructure. She noted that the absence of tarred roads within the school compound has led to severe erosion, creating gullies and posing a danger to both students and staff. “The erosion problem is getting out of hand. A properly tarred street within the school will not only solve this issue but also beautify the environment and ensure safety,” she added.
Beyond the infrastructural challenges, Madam Owusu also took the opportunity to caution teachers against engaging in any form of malpractice during the upcoming 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
As a proud alumna of Effiduase SHS herself, Madam Owusu underscored the need for integrity, discipline, and high moral standards. She firmly warned that any teacher caught assisting students in examination malpractice will not be shielded by the school authority.
“The name and image of Effiduase SHS must be protected at all costs. No teacher should involve themselves in acts that could tarnish the reputation of this institution. If any teacher is found culpable of aiding in examination malpractice, they will face the full rigors of the law without the school’s support,” she warned.
She concluded by urging all stakeholders — including parents, old students, and benevolent organizations — to join hands in transforming Effiduase SHS into a well-resourced and disciplined academic institution.
The call by Madam Olivia Owusu adds to the growing chorus of school leaders across the country who continue to raise concerns over infrastructure gaps in second-cycle institutions and the threat of examination malpractice, especially as the 2025 WASSCE approaches.
