Kumasi Mayor Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi (King Zuba) Inaugurates District Implementation Committee for Ghana SDG Smart Cities Programme

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, popularly known as King Zuba, has officially inaugurated the District Implementation Committee (DIC) for the Ghana SDG Smart Cities Programme in a significant move aimed at propelling the city toward a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient future.

The inauguration ceremony took place at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Conference Hall Auditorium and brought together a cross-section of key stakeholders including government officials, representatives from academia, civil society actors, and development partners. The Ghana SDG Smart Cities Programme, which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is scheduled to run until December 31, 2026.

In his keynote address, Mayor King Zuba reaffirmed the Assembly’s unflinching support for the programme, noting that Kumasi is ready to lead the way in smart and sustainable urban governance.

“I want to assure you of the unwavering support and dedication of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly towards the full implementation of this programme,” he said. “We are poised to make Kumasi a shining example of innovation, inclusiveness, and sustainability.”

The Mayor emphasized the critical role the committee will play in shaping the success of the initiative and urged members to approach their responsibilities with zeal, innovation, and accountability.

“The newly inaugurated members of the District Implementation Committee, your role is critical to the success of this transformative programme. Let your actions reflect the values of collaboration, innovation, and transparency that underpin the SDGs,” he charged.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Mr. Prince Aboagye Anokye, a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), expressed profound appreciation to the Assembly for the confidence reposed in them. He pledged the committee’s full dedication to achieving the programme’s goals.

“We are deeply honored to be entrusted with this responsibility,” Mr. Anokye remarked. “The committee is ready and determined to meet the high expectations placed upon us. We also call on the public to support us wholeheartedly as we work together to transform Kumasi.”

The Ghana SDG Smart Cities Programme aims to accelerate the implementation of sustainable development strategies at the local level, incorporating smart technologies, inclusive planning, and innovative urban solutions. With the inauguration of the District Implementation Committee, Kumasi takes a pivotal step forward in redefining urban governance and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
