MANCELL Headmistress Makes Passionate Appeal for Science Equipment and Infrastructure Support at Board Inauguration

The Headmistress of MANCELL Girls Senior High Technical School at Oduom in the Ashanti Region, Mrs. Mary Donkoh, has made a heartfelt appeal to government authorities, philanthropists, corporate organizations, and alumni to come to the aid of the school with urgent support in the areas of science equipment and infrastructural development.

Mrs. Donkoh made the passionate call during the official inauguration ceremony of the school’s newly constituted Board of Governors, an event that brought together key stakeholders, education officials, traditional leaders, and members of the local community.

Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Donkoh stated that MANCELL Girls SHTS, despite its commitment to promoting female education in science, technology, and vocational disciplines, continues to face significant challenges that hinder effective teaching and learning, particularly in science-related courses.

“Our science department lacks the modern laboratory equipment necessary to facilitate practical lessons and inspire our girls to pursue careers in science and technology,” she lamented. “As a technical school with a focus on empowering girls, it is disheartening that we are unable to provide them with the tools they need to succeed in a rapidly evolving academic and professional world.”

The Headmistress also highlighted the dire need for renovation works across several parts of the school, citing deteriorating classroom blocks, outdated furniture, and poor sanitation facilities as pressing issues that require immediate attention.

She commended the efforts of staff and students who have continued to strive for excellence in the face of these difficulties and expressed optimism that the inauguration of the School Board would mark the beginning of renewed efforts toward development and resource mobilization.

“We believe that with a committed Board and the support of all stakeholders, we can transform MANCELL into a model institution that nurtures capable, confident, and competent young women ready to serve Ghana and beyond,” Mrs. Donkoh added.

The newly inaugurated School Board pledged to prioritize the needs outlined by the Headmistress and work closely with the school management and relevant authorities to seek solutions. The Board Chairperson, in his inaugural remarks, echoed the concerns and called for collective responsibility in supporting girl-child education, especially in the technical and scientific fields.

Also present at the event were officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES), representatives of the Oduom traditional council, parents, and members of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), all of whom praised the leadership of Mrs. Donkoh and pledged their support to the school’s development.

The MANCELL Girls Senior High Technical School was established with the mission to empower young girls through technical and vocational education. The appeal for support is part of a broader campaign to ensure that female students are not left behind in Ghana’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education agenda.
