Kumasi Council of Christian Churches Briefs Media, Outlines Activities for National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day on July 1, 2025
As Ghana prepares to observe the 2025 edition of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, the Kumasi Council of Christian Churches (KCCC) has called on citizens to approach the occasion with reverence, humility, and a renewed sense of national unity.
At a media briefing held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Cathedral in Kumasi, the Council appealed to the general public to dress decently and refrain from wearing politically branded clothing to the event, which is scheduled for Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
Rev. Dr. Douglas Okonah Frimpong, General Overseer of the Center for Christian Outreach Ministries and Chairman of the Planning Committee, led the address. He emphasized that the event is strictly a spiritual gathering, not a political platform.
“This is not a political program. It is a national church service to seek God’s face, and we expect Ghanaians to give it the reverence it deserves,” Rev. Dr. Okonah Frimpong stated. “I don’t expect anyone to turn up in party colours or political T-shirts. Please, leave those at home. Come with a clean heart and the right spirit. That is not the place for politics.”
The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving was established to promote gratitude, unity, and spiritual reflection among Ghanaians. It provides an opportunity for citizens of all faiths to come together in prayer for the nation’s progress and divine direction amid the country’s ongoing development challenges.
The theme for this year’s celebration is: “Reset, Reflect, and Renew for National Prosperity.”
According to Rev. Dr. Okonah Frimpong, the theme calls for Ghanaians to pause, assess the nation’s journey, and recommit to peaceful coexistence and sustainable growth.
“The time has come for us to lay aside our differences—ethnic, political, religious—and look to God for direction. This day is an opportunity to pray together, reflect on our journey as a nation, and renew our dedication to building a stronger and more united Ghana,” he stressed.
The Ashanti Regional edition of the Prayer and Thanksgiving Day will take place at the Calvary Charismatic Centre (CCC), located behind the Tech Police Station in Kumasi. The Christian interdenominational service will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by an Islamic Prayer and Thanksgiving session at 12:30 p.m. at the Kumasi Central Mosque—highlighting the interfaith nature of the event.
Present at the media engagement were key regional representatives, including Mr. Emmanuel Opoku, who represented the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and Madam Henrietta Konadu, a representative of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Mayor, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi.
Speaking on behalf of the Regional Minister, Mr. Opoku emphasized that while government policies and citizens’ compliance play a role in national peace and development, it is ultimately God’s grace that sustains the country.
“It is the grace of God that sustains this country,” he said. “That is why former President John Dramani Mahama saw wisdom in instituting the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving—to seek divine guidance and acknowledge God’s hand in our affairs.”
Madam Henrietta Konadu also spoke on behalf of the Mayor of Kumasi, affirming his support for the initiative and calling for more prayers, particularly for the youth and leaders entrusted with Ghana’s future.
“The Mayor is fully in support of this program,” she said. “He is especially pleased with the interfaith approach, as it reflects our national values of tolerance, unity, and peaceful coexistence.”
The Kumasi Council of Christian Churches, composed of leaders from various denominations, reaffirmed their commitment to delivering a spiritually uplifting, inclusive, and impactful event.
As the nation prepares to gather in prayer on July 1, the message from Kumasi is clear: Let us unite in faith—not in partisanship—to pray, reflect, and renew our commitment to Ghana’s destiny.
