Hon. Dr. Stephen Amoah Commissions 33-Classroom Block for State Experimental School; Kumasi Mayor Applauds Initiative

In a bold step towards enhancing education in the Nhyiaeso Constituency, the Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Stephen Amoah, popularly known as Sticka, has commissioned a fully furnished 33-classroom, three-storey building for the State Experimental M/A Basic School in Kumasi.

The colorful ceremony, which took place on the school premises, was graced by the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, also known as King Zuba, and key stakeholders from the Kumasi Metro Education Directorate and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Amoah explained that the project was financed through his MP’s Common Fund with support from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). He emphasized that education is the bedrock of national development and reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to transforming the educational landscape in his constituency. “This facility alone will accommodate over 1,500 pupils, significantly reducing congestion and creating a more conducive learning environment. Our goal is to make public schools in Nhyiaeso as competitive as private ones,” he said.

He further noted that all government schools in the constituency are set for renovation under his leadership. He listed additional achievements, including the supply of over 2,400 tables and chairs to various schools, the donation of ICT equipment to senior high schools like Opoku Ware SHS, St. Hubert SHS, J.A. Kufuor SHS, KSTS, and Prince of Peace SHS, and the provision of 715 scholarships to deserving students.

Beyond education, the MP expressed worry about increasing criminal activities and drug abuse among the youth. He issued a stern warning against riding unregistered motorbikes and sending children to buy alcohol or tobacco, stressing that such acts will not be tolerated.

On his part, Kumasi Mayor Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi lauded the initiative and described the new block as a transformational project that will serve generations. He commended the school for its academic excellence and pledged the Assembly’s continued support. “This school has been a pillar in the development of Kumasi’s human capital. We will continue to support efforts that improve the learning environment,” he added.

Mrs. Joana Anokyewaa, Headmistress of State Experimental M/A Basic School (One), expressed profound gratitude for the new edifice. However, she highlighted other pressing needs such as fencing, security reinforcement, landscaping, and the construction of a science lab, ICT centre, and a modern library.

She appealed to the government, private sector, and benevolent individuals to come to the aid of the school to complete its transformation.

The commissioning was met with jubilation by staff, students, and community members, who described the project as a timely intervention. Many believe the facility will positively impact academic performance and restore the school’s historic reputation as a centre of excellence.
