President Mahama Nominates New District Chief Executives for the Ashanti Region

President John Dramani Mahama has announced a fresh list of nominees for the position of District Chief Executives (DCEs) across various districts within the Ashanti Region. This strategic move forms part of his administration’s renewed commitment to deepening decentralization and strengthening local governance for accelerated development.

In a statement from the Office of the President, the nominations are in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and the provisions of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940). The legislation grants the President the authority to appoint DCEs, subject to confirmation by their respective District Assemblies.

According to the statement, the Ashanti Region remains a critical hub in Ghana’s socio-economic development, and as such, the nominees have been selected based on merit, experience, and a demonstrated commitment to public service. President Mahama emphasized that the new DCEs are expected to bring renewed energy, innovative ideas, and a deep sense of accountability to their respective roles.

“The Ashanti Region is pivotal to our national development agenda. These appointments are crucial to ensuring that the aspirations of our people are met through effective grassroots governance,” the President noted.

He called on the various District Assemblies within the Ashanti Region to expedite the confirmation process to enable the nominees to assume office promptly and begin the important task of community transformation.

The list of nominees is being sent to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and will be officially released to the public. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to support the new leaders and collaborate in advancing local initiatives.

President Mahama also expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing DCEs for their dedicated service and contributions to their districts. He urged the incoming officers to build upon the foundations laid by their predecessors and work towards inclusive and sustainable development.

Further updates, including confirmation dates and swearing-in ceremonies, will be communicated as the process unfolds.
