The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on Tuesday witnessed a moment of tradition, pride, and symbolism as Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi officially took office as Mayor of Kumasi, following a stately welcome ceremony highlighted by a ceremonial Guard of Honour.
The colourful event, held at the Assembly premises, featured a well-coordinated 30-man contingent from the Metro Guard under the command of Sergeant Asamoah Mensah. The contingent marched in full ceremonial display, showcasing the discipline and prestige associated with the mayoral transition.
One of the most symbolic moments of the event was the formal placing of the mayoral chain of office on Hon. Boadi, a gesture that marked his full assumption of office as the leader of the Garden City. The chain, a distinguished emblem of authority, civic responsibility, and tradition, is worn only during official public engagements and serves as a reminder of the mayor’s pledge to uphold the values of unity, service, and development for all.
The Metro Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis Dwira Darko, played a pivotal role in guiding the new mayor through the day’s proceedings. He formally introduced Hon. Boadi to heads of departments and unit leaders within the Assembly and presented the official Handing Over Report, providing a comprehensive brief on ongoing initiatives, challenges, and developmental priorities.
Hon. Boadi, visibly humbled by the warm reception, expressed appreciation to the staff of the Assembly and the entire Kumasi public. He emphasized his readiness to work hand-in-hand with all stakeholders to bring innovation, efficiency, and progress to the metropolis.
“I am honoured by this welcome and deeply aware of the responsibility that lies ahead. Together, we will make Kumasi a beacon of good governance and inclusive development,” he stated.
The ceremony concluded with cheers and goodwill messages from staff and dignitaries present, signaling the beginning of a new chapter for Kumasi under the leadership of Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi.
As the city turns a new page, many residents are optimistic that the Mayor’s leadership will bring renewed energy and transformative projects to Ghana’s second-largest city.
