KWASO TRADITIONAL LEADERS AND INDIGENES LEAD MASSIVE CLEAN-UP EXERCISE AHEAD OF EASTER HOMECOMING

In a spirited demonstration of communal unity and environmental consciousness, the traditional leaders, indigenes, and residents of Kwaaso in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region embarked on a massive clean-up exercise on Friday, ahead of the much-anticipated Easter Homecoming celebrations.

The exercise, which commenced as early as 6:00 a.m., witnessed a large turnout of enthusiastic community members, including the two Assembly Members representing the Kwaaso electoral areas, unit committee members, youth groups, and volunteers. Participants busied themselves sweeping the streets, de-silting choked gutters, clearing bushy surroundings, and properly disposing of refuse in and around the community.

The clean-up was spearheaded by the Traditional Council of Kwaaso, under the leadership of the Chief of Kwaaso, Nana Osei Adutwum, who has consistently championed the cause of improved sanitation and community development. The initiative forms part of a series of preparatory activities toward ensuring a clean and healthy environment for visitors and returning natives during this year’s Easter Homecoming festivities.

Addressing the media on behalf of the Chief, the Chairman of the Kwaaso Homecoming Committee and Chief Executive Officer of Blessing Alata Samina, Mr. Kingsley Gyamfi, commended the residents for their active participation in the clean-up. He stressed that the exercise was a fulfillment of Nana Osei Adutwum’s vision to improve sanitation and hygiene in Kwaaso.

“This exercise is not a one-time activity but a call to action for all natives of Kwaaso, both home and abroad, to come together to support the development of our community. As we prepare to welcome our brothers and sisters home for the Easter Homecoming, it is our duty to ensure a clean and healthy environment for all,” Mr. Gyamfi said.

He further appealed to all stakeholders, especially Kwaaso natives residing outside the community, to return home and contribute meaningfully to the development of the area during the Easter celebrations and beyond.

Hon. Seth Obeng Yeboah, one of the Assembly Members for the Kwaaso Electoral Area, also took the opportunity to highlight some of the pressing social issues confronting the community. He lamented the poor drainage system, lack of adequate waste disposal facilities, and inadequate street lighting, which he said continue to affect the quality of life in Kwaaso. He called on the Municipal Assembly and other relevant authorities to intervene and provide the needed support to address these challenges.

Several indigenes who spoke to the media expressed their excitement about the clean-up initiative and pledged their continuous support for community development activities. They also praised the traditional leadership and organizers for their commitment to fostering unity and progress in Kwaaso.

The Easter Homecoming, which is expected to draw hundreds of natives and guests, will feature a series of events including durbars, health screenings, games, fundraising activities, and cultural displays aimed at promoting local heritage and raising funds for development projects.

Kwaaso continues to stand out as a community that blends tradition with progressive action, and Friday’s clean-up exercise once again reaffirmed the resolve of its people to take ownership of their environment and work collectively for a better future.
