Breast Care International Commemorates World Cancer Day in Beposo with Awareness and Screening Activities

Breast Care International (BCI), in collaboration with the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), Touch – The Black Breast Cancer Alliance, Delta Air Lines, and Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, Accra, commemorated World Cancer Day with a series of impactful events in Beposo, Ghana. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about cancer, emphasize the importance of early detection, and provide free screenings for residents.

Promoting Cancer Awareness and Early Detection

The event, held under the theme “United by Unique,” brought together healthcare professionals, cancer survivors, and local community members to discuss the growing burden of cancer and the urgent need for preventive measures. The day featured educational sessions, free breast cancer screenings, and interactive discussions on lifestyle modifications that can reduce cancer risks.

Dr. Beatrice wiafe Addai, President of Breast Care International, highlighted the critical role of early detection in cancer management.

“Many lives can be saved if people seek medical attention early. Regular screenings and awareness campaigns like this are essential in bridging the knowledge gap and ensuring that more people understand the importance of early diagnosis,” she emphasized.

Collaborative Efforts for a Healthier Future

Representatives from UICC, Touch – The Black Breast Cancer Alliance, Delta Air Lines, and Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City reaffirmed their commitment to supporting cancer awareness initiatives in Ghana. They expressed gratitude to BCI for its continuous efforts in educating and providing vital healthcare services to underserved communities.

A cancer survivor who shared her testimony at the event encouraged women to seek medical help as soon as they notice any unusual changes in their bodies.

“I was diagnosed early, and today, I am a survivor. Do not ignore the signs; get screened, get treated, and you can live a healthy life,” she said.

A Call to Action

The commemoration of World Cancer Day in Beposo was not only a moment of reflection but also a call to action for individuals, policymakers, and organizations to prioritize cancer prevention and treatment. BCI urged the government and stakeholders to invest more in cancer awareness programs, infrastructure, and affordable treatment options to reduce the growing cancer burden in Ghana.

The event ended with a renewed commitment from all partners to continue their advocacy and support for cancer patients and survivors across the country.
