“I Am Fighting for Justice, Not Running” – Baaba Sam Responds to Ex-Partner’s Allegations

Twenty-nine-year-old Karen Baaba Sam, the resilient Ghanaian woman at the center of an alleged domestic violence case and a child custody dispute, has refuted claims that she is evading justice. She insists that contrary to media reports allegedly sponsored by her ex-partner, Nana Kwadwo Adjei, she is in court fighting for her rights and those of her 5-year-old daughter.

Ms. Baaba Sam made these remarks in an exclusive interview after the Achimota District Court, presided over by His Worship Prince Osei Owusu, on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, ruled in her favor by setting aside an arrest warrant she described as “illegally obtained.” She alleges that the warrant was procured by her ex-partner with the assistance of certain elements within the Ghana Police Service in an attempt to intimidate her.

Baaba Sam has vowed to use all legal avenues available to her to protect her daughter and expose what she describes as a pattern of abuse, deception, and manipulation by Nana Kwadwo Adjei.

Court Ruling on Arrest Warrant

During the hearing of the motion to set aside the arrest warrant, lawyers representing Ms. Baaba Sam argued that the warrant had no legal basis and must be rescinded. The state, represented by Senior State Attorney David Beecham, did not oppose the motion. Consequently, the court ruled in Baaba Sam’s favor, setting aside the arrest warrant and allowing her to move freely without fear of arrest.

Despite this court ruling, some newspapers—including The Chronicle, Day Break, Metro Lens, and Supreme—published articles on February 6, 2025, alleging that Baaba Sam was defying justice by refusing to comply with a court order regarding custody of her daughter.

She has strongly denied these reports, stating that she is actively challenging the legality of the custody orders, just as she successfully challenged the arrest warrant.

Baaba Sam’s Response to Media Reports

Ms. Baaba Sam criticized the media outlets publishing these claims, asserting that her ex-partner is using his financial influence to manipulate public perception.

“In January 1968, long before you, Kwadwo Adjei, was born, it was stated that a court making a decision where a party does not appear because they have not been notified is doing a null act,” she stated.

She further accused Nana Adjei of dishonestly obtaining court orders on January 10 and 14, 2025, without proper legal grounds.

“The orders that Nana Adjei lied about, paid for, and obtained will eventually face the same doom as his illegal arrest warrant. He can buy as many gullible pressmen as he wants to purvey his lies, but he cannot purvey the law and justice,” Baaba Sam declared.

She emphasized that those involved in spreading false narratives against her would eventually be held accountable.

“What we are seeing and reading about in these rented press outlets is still the abuser at work—lying, deceiving, and bribing the gullible to do his bidding,” she added.

Background of the Case

Karen Baaba Sam first broke her silence on the alleged years of physical, verbal, and emotional abuse she endured from Nana Adjei on January 20, 2025.

In a detailed account, she revealed that their relationship, which began in 2016, turned abusive over time, especially after she became pregnant in 2018.

She recalled that the first incident of domestic violence occurred in December 2018 when Nana Adjei, intoxicated from a night out, attacked her with slaps and kicks, even striking her pregnant belly. She said she feared for the life of her unborn child.

Over the years, the violence allegedly escalated, with reports made to the East Legon Police Station yielding no results. Karen claimed that her ex-partner frequently boasted about his connections within the police, making her feel helpless.

In April 2023, an incident at a restaurant where Nana Adjei publicly humiliated her in front of his new girlfriend led her to finally decide to leave him. When she returned home that night, she was allegedly attacked by Nana Adjei in the presence of their daughter, an incident witnessed by two family friends visiting from Germany.

She also accused Nana Adjei of kicking their daughter during the altercation, causing her to fall and cry.

Determined to escape the abuse, Karen ended the relationship in December 2023. However, she said her ex-partner reacted with threats and demands, even insisting that she return all gifts he had given her, including their daughter’s school car.

Fearing further attacks, Karen moved out in February 2024, but on her first night in her new home, she was robbed at gunpoint. Suspiciously, all her valuables were taken except for a necklace that Nana Adjei later demanded back. Authorities investigating the attack believed it was orchestrated by someone close to her, leading to her being placed under police protection.

Seeking Justice

Karen Baaba Sam remains resolute in her legal battle to protect herself and her daughter. She insists that the truth will prevail despite what she describes as an attempt by her ex-partner to use his financial and social influence to distort facts.

She called on women facing domestic violence and legal intimidation to stand firm and seek justice through the legal system, no matter the obstacles.

“The law is not for sale, and justice will prevail,” she affirmed.
