Minority Caucus Addresses Speaker’s Suspension of NPP MPs and Appointment Committee Concerns

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has held a press conference to express its stance on the Speaker’s recent suspension of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) and concerns regarding the conduct of National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs and the Clerk of the Appointment Committee.

The press briefing, which took place on Monday, February 3, 2025, saw Minority members voicing their dissatisfaction with how parliamentary proceedings have unfolded in recent days.

According to the Minority Caucus, the Speaker’s decision to suspend NPP MPs raises serious questions about fairness and parliamentary procedure. They argued that such an action has far-reaching implications on governance and democratic principles.

Additionally, the Minority addressed concerns about the conduct of NDC MPs and the Clerk of the Appointment Committee, stating that due process and transparency must always be upheld in the work of the Committee.

Speaking at the press conference, a leading member of the Minority Caucus stressed the need for parliamentary neutrality in decision-making.

“Parliament is an institution that must operate on fairness, transparency, and respect for due process. Any actions that appear to sideline one political faction or undermine the work of committees must be thoroughly scrutinized,” the MP stated.

The press conference, attended by journalists and political stakeholders, also highlighted the need for greater accountability in parliamentary decisions. The Minority Caucus called for immediate dialogue to resolve the current tensions and ensure that Parliament operates without bias or political interference.

As the situation unfolds, the Minority Caucus remains firm in its demand for justice and procedural integrity in all parliamentary affairs.
