The Kwadaso Circuit Court has remanded the Assembly Member for Kwanwoma Akyeremade Electoral Area, Seth Akwasi Agyapong, into police custody for two weeks over charges of offensive conduct, unlawful entry, damage to property, and threats to kill.
The 40-year-old, who also works as a steel bender, was arraigned before the court on Tuesday, February 5, 2025, following allegations that he led a violent group to destroy building materials at a construction site belonging to Elder Dr. Bismarck Amoah, leader and founder of Bohye Prayer Center under the Church of Pentecost. The incident occurred on January 28, 2025, at approximately 8:30 PM at Akyeremade, with cement blocks and other materials worth hundreds of Ghana cedis reportedly destroyed.
Threats Against Former Assembly Member
In addition to the property damage charges, Seth Agyapong is also accused of threatening to kill his predecessor, Hon. Justice Baffour Awuah, a renowned senior journalist and former Assembly Member for the area. The alleged threat stemmed from an ongoing manhole construction project in the community, which had sparked controversy.
On January 29, 2025, the accused allegedly went to the residence of Hon. Baffour Awuah and, in the presence of Chief Inspector Emmanuel Awelega, declared, “I swear by heaven and earth that I will end your life and show your own blood to the public.”
Court Proceedings and Possible Additional Charges
Seth Agyapong is expected to reappear in court on February 17, 2025, where he will face additional charges, including:
Unlawful entry
Threatening to kill
Damage to property
Legal experts suggest that if he fails to plead guilty or provide a strong justification, the court may extend his remand period.
The case has drawn significant public attention, given Agyapong’s position as an elected official. Meanwhile, the police continue their investigations, and community leaders have called for calm as the legal process unfolds.
