Otumfour Brempong Applauds Mahama’s Plan to Equip Assembly Members

Otumfour Brempong Nana Gyedu Kumaning IV, Chief of Amakye Bare in the Atwima Nwabiagya North Municipality, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his promise to provide Assembly Members with allowances and logistics to support their work.

According to Nana Gyedu Kumaning IV, Assembly Members play a vital role in local governance but often lack the necessary resources to carry out their duties effectively. He believes that recognizing and equipping them will strengthen Ghana’s decentralization process.

A Call for Recognition and Support

He further emphasized that Assembly Members form part of the electoral college for the Council of State elections, making it essential to prioritize their welfare. “Their work is demanding, and they deserve better recognition and support,” he stated.

Nana Gyedu Kumaning IV also pledged to advocate for the concerns of Assembly Members. “If given the opportunity to serve as a Council of State member, I will work closely with the government to ensure their challenges are addressed,” he assured.

Strengthening Local Governance

The chief disclosed plans to visit various Assemblies periodically to assess their needs and facilitate discussions with sector ministers to find solutions. He noted that some issues could be resolved locally, while others would require national-level intervention.

He concluded by stressing the importance of strategic planning for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to improve governance and development at the grassroots level.
