Nana Akosua Pokuaa Appeals to President-Elect John Mahama to Complete Key Development Projects in Ashanti Region

Nana Akosua Pokuaa, the Deputy Queenmother of the Ashanti Regional Beads Sellers Association, has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to prioritize the completion of several crucial, long-abandoned development projects in the Ashanti region. These include the Krofrom Market, hospitals, the Central Market Phase 2, and the rehabilitation of parts of the Kejetia Dubai Market, which was severely damaged by fire several years ago.

In a recent interview with Otec FM’s Simon Opoku Afriyie, Nana Akosua Pokuaa emphasized that completing these projects is essential for the region’s economic revival. She pointed out that the market women and traders in the region have been eagerly awaiting the chance to return to modernized facilities, which would enable them to resume their businesses and contribute significantly to the region’s economic growth. These incomplete projects are vital to the livelihoods of many residents who depend on the markets for their daily income.

The Queenmother further explained that fulfilling these promises would not only improve the economic standing of the Ashanti region but also solidify the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s support among the people. According to Nana Akosua Pokuaa, completing these key projects would strengthen the NDC’s position in the region and help ensure long-term political stability and success for the party.

In addition to her concerns about infrastructure, Nana Akosua Pokuaa expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the country’s education system under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), particularly the controversial double-track system introduced during the tenure of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. She criticized the policy for its negative impact on the quality of education, calling it a hindrance to the academic success of students.

The Ashanti Regional Deputy Queenmother urged Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, the newly appointed Education Minister-designate, to take swift and decisive action to restore and improve the country’s educational system. She called for a renewed focus on revitalizing Senior High Schools (SHS) to ensure that students are equipped with the best possible educational opportunities to succeed in the future.

Nana Akosua Pokuaa’s appeal to President-elect Mahama and the new Education Minister highlights the growing concerns of many Ghanaians regarding both economic development and the education sector. Her call for immediate action on these crucial issues underscores the need for leadership that responds to the pressing challenges of the people, paving the way for a prosperous and sustainable future for Ghana.
