Atwima Kwanwoma Assembly Members Defend Coordinating Director Amid Controversy Over Alleged Theft of Assembly Property

Assembly members of the Atwima Kwanwoma District in the Ashanti Region have rallied behind District Coordinating Director, Madam Eunice Korankye, in the face of allegations accusing her and the assembly members of theft. The allegations stem from claims made by the NDC Chairman and Youth Organizer in the constituency, accusing the assembly of misappropriating assembly property. However, the assembly members are standing firm in defense of their director and the integrity of the district assembly.

During a press conference, the Presiding Member, Hon. Anthony Kwame Nsiah, provided clarity on the situation, explaining that for several years, due to space constraints at the district assembly office, the assembly had made arrangements to store essential items, such as street bulbs, fertilizers, and warranty boots, at the residence of the Coordinating Director. This practice had been in place since 2017 and had continued without issue under the leadership of Madam Korankye, with the full knowledge and consent of all assembly members.

Hon. Nsiah expressed shock and dismay at the actions of Mr. Solomon Alonga, the NDC Chairman, and the Youth Organizer, who unlawfully entered the Coordinating Director’s residence and took control of the assembly’s property without authorization. According to the presiding member, this move was carried out with the assistance of the police, without informing the assembly or obtaining permission from Madam Korankye.

“This unlawful seizure of assembly property is deeply troubling and uncalled for,” Hon. Nsiah stated. “The false accusations of theft against the Coordinating Director and the assembly members are completely baseless. We stand by Madam Korankye, and we reject these claims in the strongest terms.”

The presiding member urged the public to disregard the misleading information being spread by the NDC leadership, noting that these allegations were part of an attempt to undermine the credibility of the assembly and its operations.

In interviews with some of the assembly members, they made it clear that they would not support any nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE) unless the NDC leadership issued a formal apology to both Madam Korankye and the assembly members. They emphasized that the apology was necessary to restore trust and resolve the ongoing conflict.

“We will not support any DCE nominee unless the NDC leadership publicly apologizes to Madam Korankye and all of us,” one of the assembly members declared. “The false accusations and unlawful actions must be addressed if we are to move forward as a district.”

The assembly members concluded the press conference by calling for a resolution to the dispute, urging the NDC officials to retract their accusations and apologize to restore peace and cooperation in the district.

With tensions running high, the future of the relationship between the Atwima Kwanwoma Assembly and the NDC remains uncertain, and the public continues to watch as the dispute unfolds.
