Massive Demo Looms Over CLOGSAG Leadership

A massive demonstration is imminent against the national, regional, and district leadership of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) if the National Executive Council (NEC) fails to act on a petition against certain executives.

Two national executives, Mr. Emmanuel Acquah, Acting National First Trustee, and Mr. Ernest Tagoe, Acting National Treasurer, have accused the Executive Secretary, Dr. Isaac Bampoe Addo, and Acting President, Mr. Benjamin Otoo, of fraudulent activities, mismanagement of funds, and abuse of power among others in a petition before the NEC.

However, it’s alleged that the accused executives are trying to change the signatories of all CLOGSAG accounts before an investigation can take place.

This move has infuriated the CLOGSAG membership, with a reliable source hinting at a massive nationwide demonstration if the NEC approves the proposed change of signatories.

“We are closely watching the actions of national, regional, and district executives regarding the allegations against the Executive Secretary and Acting President,” said a former district officer of CLOGSAG.

He mentioned that, in the NEC’s last meeting, they were told that the petitioners had been suspended. However, the petitioners alleged that they were not heard regarding the reasons for their suspension.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that the NEC will hold an emergency meeting on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 7:00 a.m. to consider changing the signatories, rather than addressing the allegations that are of great concern to members.

He appealed to the NEC, as a matter of fairness and administrative justice, to investigate this allegation of not being heard before their suspension.

He stated that CLOGSAG is at a crossroads, and the integrity and dignity of the NEC cannot be compromised in ensuring checks and balances in the Association.

“As I speak, about 99% of CLOGSAG members are concerned about the issues in the petition and are awaiting an investigation, not approval of new signatories.

They should also note that allegations of fraud are part of the petition by the two national executives,” he emphasized.

The former district officer noted that aggrieved members are waiting for a report from the investigation into the allegations in the petition to relieve them of losing their funds and pensions and to restore confidence in CLOGSAG’s leadership.

He threatened that any attempt to push the petition under the carpet, as is being speculated, would result in a massive uprising in the Association.

He called on the NEC to, as a matter of urgency, ensure accountability, probity, fairness, and justice, and restore the dignity and integrity of the association.
