Asantehene Constructs 600-Bed Capacity Girls’ Dormitory for Sefwi Wiawso SHS

In a monumental effort to promote education and improve student welfare, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is spearheading the construction of a three-storey, 600-bed capacity girls’ dormitory for Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School (SHS) in the Western North Region. The project, undertaken through the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, reflects the Asantehene’s long-standing commitment to supporting educational infrastructure, particularly for young girls in Ghana.

On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Otumfuo Hiahene, Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, Board Chair of the Otumfuo Foundation, led a routine monitoring exercise to inspect the progress of the project. The visit was part of ongoing efforts to ensure that the construction stays on schedule and meets the highest standards.

Nana Prof. Boachie-Adjei was accompanied by representatives from Attachy Construction Limited, the firm responsible for building the dormitory, as well as consultants from the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL). The inspection team assessed various aspects of the structure, emphasizing quality control, safety measures, and adherence to timelines.

Sefwi Wiawso SHS, the alma mater of the Asantehene, has seen an increasing number of students over the years, creating a dire need for expanded accommodation facilities. The new girls’ dormitory, once completed, will address the growing demand, improve living conditions, and contribute to an enhanced learning environment for female students.

The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation has been at the forefront of numerous development projects aimed at providing quality education, improving healthcare, and alleviating poverty across Ghana. The Foundation’s investment in the girls’ dormitory is a testament to the Asantehene’s vision of empowering the youth, particularly girls, through education.

Speaking during the inspection, Nana Prof. Boachie-Adjei commended Attachy Construction Limited for their commitment to the project and urged them to complete the dormitory on time. He reiterated the Foundation’s dedication to fostering educational growth in various regions of the country and called on other stakeholders to support such initiatives.

The construction of the dormitory has been hailed by many as a timely intervention that will not only relieve the school of its accommodation challenges but also improve the safety and well-being of students, allowing them to focus more on their studies.

Upon completion, the dormitory will be equipped with modern facilities to provide a conducive and secure environment for the girls, further boosting the academic performance and overall morale of the students.

The Otumfuo Foundation, founded by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, continues to lead efforts in transforming education in Ghana, and the Sefwi Wiawso SHS dormitory project is another notable example of its impact.
