Residents of Antoa-Krobo in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region have fled from the town after some irate youth attacked the Chief of the community Nana Yaw Adom Owusu I over chieftaincy dispute.
Nana Yaw Adom Owusu I, Krobo Chief sustained various degrees of injuries after he was attacked by some irate youth.
The youth vandalized the chief’s Toyota Highlander vehicle.
A source told OTEC FM’s Nana Asare that some of the youth in the community have raised concerns that Nana Yaw Adom Owusu I doesn’t deserve to be the chief of the community.
According to the source, Nana Yaw Adom Owusu I was attacked by the irate youth when he went to the royal cemetery to rehabilitate the place since he wants to bury his late mother and grandmother at the royal cemetery.
The doors of the royal cemetery (tomb) has been destroyed by the irate youth.
Meanwhile, the Leader of Krobo Youth Association Mpiani Osei Sampson speaking to nana Asare said the youth in the community do not recognize Nana Yaw Adom Owusu I as the chief of Krobo.
According to him, Nana Yaw Adom Owusu I was sworn in by his family members and not the community therefore he is the chief of his family not the Krobo Community.
”What we all know is that there is no Chief at Krobo Community. We don’t have chief and Nana Yaw Adom Owusu I is not our chief because we don’t know him. We only saw him sitting in a palanquin and moving up and down with his family members after the death of Krobo Chief.
He has not been introduced to us that he is our king and they can’t even introduce him because they know he doesn’t deserve to be the chief of Krobo,” he fumed.
Leader of Krobo Youth Association Mpiani Osei Sampson appealed to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to intervene in the chieftaincy issue in the community.
He revealed that about 15 innocent youth have been arrested by the police while others are nowhere to be found.
However, Nana Yaw Adom Owusu I, Krobo Chief has warned the irate youth to refrain from taking the law into their own hands saying their attitude is affecting the development of the community.
He added that he has every right to bury his late mother and grandmother at the royal cemetery since he is the chief of the community.
