NPP IN THE TAMALE SOUTH CONSTITUENCY CONDEMNS THE REMOVAL AND DEFACING OF ALHAJI FUSEINI MUSAH AND H.E ALHAJI DR. MAHAMUDU BAWUMIA’S POSTERS AND BANNERS.

The attention of the leadership of NPP in the Tamale South Constituency has been drawn to the removal and defacing of the banners and posters of our workaholic Parliamentary Candidate, Alhaji Fuseini Musah, and the indefatigable Flagbearer, H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

This unfortunate and distasteful incident occurred on the night of the celebration of the Bugum (Fire) Festival by the good people of the Northern Region, precisely Tamale South Constituency.

Under normal circumstances, we expected the people to carry themselves maturely but some irresponsible characters engaged themselves in this shameful act by defacing our Presidential Candidate and Parliamentary Candidate posters and banners completely at the Lamashegu Road and Tamale Teaching Hospital Road.

Strangely, the posters and banners of Honourable Haruna Iddrisu were not touched when we visited the scene to ascertain the level of destruction and defacing being done. This is highly repugnant and unreasonable for a group of people who should know better than to commit this heinous crime of removal and destruction of our Parliamentary Candidate and Flagbearer’s posters and banners.

Fast forward, we have taken this backward act as a deliberate attempt by an unscrupulous group of people within the NDC whose agenda is to cause mayhem and confusion. However, we are focused and remain resolute as a Party and wouldn’t retaliate by also destroying the banners and posters of our opponent.

Instructively, we have come a long way as a Nation and Ghana is described as the beacon of our democratic values and principles. However, this act if not checked could undermine the frontiers of our democratic values and principles going forward.

Per the Political Parties laws of Ghana, it is a punishable offense for an individual or group of people to destroy, remove, and deface the banners and posters of political Party campaigns in the Country.

Again, as stated, “a person is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding 200 penalty units or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding six months,”. This should serve as a guide for those who engaged in that unfortunate act of the removal and defacing of the posters and banners of our Parliamentary Candidate and Flagbearer.

In conclusion, we vehemently condemn those who were involved and entreat them to put a stop to it to help strengthen the frontiers of our democratic values. Notably this irresponsible act should not be tolerated and we call on the relevant stakeholders, especially the Police to look into the matter for an amicable resolution.

Thank you.

Long live NPP
