Kwabere East MCE announces plans to plant 20,000 trees in the municipality

The Municipal Chief Executive of Kwabere East Municipal Assembly Hon Nana Osei Asibey Bonsu has announced plans to plant 20,000 trees in the municipality within a year as part of efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.

He disclosed this to the press today during a tree planting exercise organised by the Assembly in partnership with the church of Pentecost and other organizations within the municipality.

Speaking at the official Launching of Green Ghana project at SIMMS Senior High School , Hon Nana Osei Asibey Bonsu explained that planting trees is crucial to fight climate change and protect the environment adding that, trees are essential for the preservation of the planet, provide oxygen, climate change amelioration, conserve water, preserve the soil, and support wildlife.

He stressed the need to address the issue of deforestation by stepping up reforestation since it was an important instrument to reduce emissions.

He said “Forests are indispensable. They are our life-support system. The air we breathe is from forests, we rely on forests for foods, biodiversity, energy and more”.

Hon.Osei Asibey Bonsu made humble appeal to Ghanaians the need to intensify public awareness and education on the climate change issues and encouraged all and sundry to help preserve the environment.

However,Mr Edward Frimpong, Kwabre East NHIA Municipal Manager also pledged their unflinching committment to support the government ambition to plant more trees to protect our environment.


He urged the public to pay much attention on the tree to fulfill it’s purposes.

In conclusion, Pastor Jerry Kusi Acquah District pastor,church of Pentecost mamponteng district commended the government for his tremendous effort to plant tree to protect our environment.


He said the church of Pentecost through the vision of the Chairman of the Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye has already started planted trees to improve air quality and also to protect our environment.
