Artisans of the Ashanti Regional Association of Welders and Fabrication have petitioned the authorities of Ghana standard authority to question importers who import metal materials into the country to ensure that, they import quality and accurate seizes of materials to the country.
According to them, the importers continue to increase prices of metal materials but forgetting about the quality and standard with accurate seizes including the length, breath and thickness of the materials which always affect their standard of craftsmanship.
Speaking to the media during the demonstration in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional chairman for the association, Mr Akwasi Appiah said, the importers of metal materials are taking due advantage of exchange rate between cedis and dollars in the country to cheat them with substandard and rampant price increments of materials.
He used the occasion to appealed to the authorities including Ghana standard authority and ministry of trade and industry to intervene in the situation else most of them cannot withstand the challenges and will quit from the business.
He however appealed to the general public to always do business with artisans who are certified and registered members of the association with recognition from the government to ensure quality of works and value for money.
