Due to the high level of crime in the nation, living in South Africa today is terrifying. There is criminal behavior occurring on a daily basis. Conflict has recently arisen between illegal miners and locals in communities close to these abandoned mines, where illegal miners frequently find themselves and which are also close to them. Concerns about illegal miners who live close to residents, make their lives challenging, and are also viewed as being dangerous and armed have been voiced by many South African citizens.

Some of these unauthorized miners are allegedly also undocumented immigrants from nations like Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. The police officers have been working extremely hard over the last few days, along with the minister of police, to make sure that every illegal miner is detained and charged with their crimes. But it appears that these illegal miners are content that the police have detained a few of the people they are employing.

Following reports that illegal miners entered Wesselton Primary School in Ermelo, Mpumalanga to protest and burn materials, a video was shared on social media that shocked and alarmed many people. They demanded that police release 11 Swazi illegal miners, 92 Mozambicans, and 30 Zimbabweans who are currently in custody for illegal mining. They also threatened the teachers and students at the school.
