Garden City University College at Kenyasi in the Kwabre East district in the Ashanti region has conferred a special awarded to an alumnus, Joshua Twum Barimah.
The award was in recognition of his commitment in ensuring conducive learning environment at the school by building and donating a 4-bedroom kiddie centre for the university.
The centre, known as ‘Jokwat Kiddie Paradise’, will accommodate student-nursing mothers to comfortably breastfeed their babies during lectures.
The award was held during the 14th congregation ceremony for 2021/22 academic year at the school campus on Saturday, August 13, 2022.
Joshua Twum Barimah, who is the CEO of Jokwat group of Companies, was presented with an undisclosed wrapped package by the founder of GCUC, Mr Albert Acquah.
Mr Albert Acquah in recognizing Mr Twum Barimah for the donation, he said “the building has eased some of the discomforts experienced by some nursing-student mothers during lectures”.
“Some nursing mothers have to skip lectures; either leaving lecture halls for home or not coming to campus at all because of breastfeeding, this affecting their academic activities,” he added.
Joshua Twum Barimah, who read Bachelor of Business Administration from 2010 to 2014, in his appreciation, thanked the University for the honour done him.
“I am extremely grateful today for the recognition and honour done me as an alumnus of this prestigious University. GCUC has that have shaped my thoughts and thinking as an entrepreneur/business man, hence the building of the centre,” he gladly said.
He stated that during his 4-year academic training at GCUC, he identified a challenge, which was student-nursing mothers who breastfed their babies openly, and after completing school, he decide to help.
“To address this problem, I decided to construct a facility that would accommodate children on campus whiles their mothers attend lecturers or pursue their academic dreams, which also contributed to the increase of students’ enrolment at the university,” he added.
