Ashanti Region: 18-year-old burnt to death; cause unknown

The charred remains of an 18-year-old young man were discovered after a fierce fire tore through a 10-bedroom house on Saturday (August 6).

The fire is said to have started from a recycling plant installed in the house located at Kronum Botantia Electoral Area in the Suame Municipality.

At least five fire engines were deployed to the scene to battle the blaze which spread to other adjoining structures, including a church.

“The fire service are here without a vehicle. There was no water in their engine when it arrived. The fire has been spreading to other households and power supply has been affected”, a witness told dailymailgh.com at the scene.

Meanwhile the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) says some tenants were also displaced as the fire spread to at least three other buildings.

Ashanti Regional Spokesperson for the Ghana National Fire Service, DOIII Peter Osei Addai says investigations have commenced.

“It is a 10-bedroom structure that is used for domestic and a recycling plant. And the direction of the wind and the heat wave also affected three structures. We had one person trapped and his remains have been retrieved… The whole building has been burnt”, the fire spokesperson said.

“Investigations have started to ascertain the cause of the fire”, he added.
