Nkawie District Forestry Department Arrests Illegal Chainsaw Operators
Recovered 5 chainsaws from illegal operators
The public warned against trespassing on Ghana’s forest reserves
About eight people have been arrested for suspected illegal chainsaw operations at Tano Offin Forest Reserve in Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, Ashanti Region.
The suspects arrested for their illegal entry into the forest reserve are Attah Abeka (30), Prince Abeka (16), Shaibu Frank (17), Nkrumah Isaac (25), Dawuni Attah (20), Prince Opoku (17) , Ali Issa (24) and Yaw Opoku (30).
Her arrest was carried out by the Nkawie District Forestry Department on Monday, July 4, 2022.
Chrisantus Nifasoyi, branch chief of Nkawie District Forest Service, confirmed the arrest and said the suspects were caught through an intelligence system set up by Range Supervisors, Rapid Response Team and Forest Guards.
According to a report from Oyerepafmonline.com, the team seized 5 chainsaws when the suspects were arrested.
They have since been handed over to Nkawie District Police and are being investigated with a view to possible prosecution.
While reiterating his department’s determination to deal with those trespassing on the reserve, the department head of the District Forest Service advised the public to refrain from trespassing on the country’s forest reserves.
