The newly reconstituted Management Board of Kumasi City Market Limited has been formally tasked to spearhead a comprehensive transformation of Kumasi’s commercial landscape, with a strong focus on efficiency, innovation, and alignment with the government’s 24-Hour Economy agenda.

The Board was sworn in by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, who underscored the strategic importance of Kumasi City Market as a central pillar of economic activity in the Ashanti Region. He emphasized that the market, widely regarded as one of the largest and busiest trading centres in Ghana, must reflect modern standards of governance, accountability, and service delivery.

Dr. Amoakohene charged the Board to provide visionary leadership that will reposition the market as a competitive and investor-friendly commercial hub. He urged members to strengthen collaboration with traders, traditional authorities, and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to ensure improved infrastructure, enhanced sanitation, better security systems, and transparent revenue management.

According to the Minister, effective management of the market will significantly contribute to job creation, increased trading hours, and sustained economic growth within the metropolis. He noted that the 24-Hour Economy policy presents a unique opportunity for Kumasi to consolidate its reputation as the economic heartbeat of the Ashanti Region.

Chairman of the Board and Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to impactful governance and strategic reforms. He pledged that the new management team would prioritize trader welfare while implementing policies aimed at improving operational efficiency and strengthening stakeholder confidence.

He further assured that the Board would work diligently to modernize market administration, promote order and discipline, and create a safe and conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

The reconstitution of the Market Board is widely seen as a renewed effort to strengthen institutional leadership and enhance the role of Kumasi City Market as a driving force for commerce and urban development. With a clear mandate and defined strategic direction, the Board is expected to play a pivotal role in transforming Kumasi’s commercial ecosystem and advancing the broader economic vision of the region.
