Residents of Accra have been left in shock following the sudden death of a 77-year-old man who was discovered lifeless in a hotel room after checking in with his 32-year-old girlfriend. The circumstances surrounding the tragedy remain under investigation as police work to unravel the cause of death.
According to police reports, the deceased, identified as James Musili, booked a room at a popular lodge in Accra with the young woman on Tuesday evening. The two were expected to check out the following morning, but when they failed to do so, hotel staff grew suspicious and decided to check on them.
To their surprise, Musili was found motionless on the bed while his female companion was still present in the room. Authorities were immediately alerted, and a police team arrived at the scene to confirm the death.
Investigators recovered personal belongings, including a travel bag and several tablets believed to be sexual enhancement drugs. Some of the drugs had already been consumed, raising questions about whether they may have contributed to Musili’s sudden demise.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, the 32-year-old woman has been taken into police custody to assist with investigations. Officials say she will remain under questioning until the case is fully clarified.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among residents, with many expressing worries over what they describe as a rise in unexplained hotel deaths. Some have called on hotel operators to strengthen surveillance and security measures to protect guests and help prevent similar cases in the future.
One concerned resident told reporters, “There are far too many unexplained deaths in hotels lately. Measures must be taken to safeguard the lives of guests. People should feel safe when they lodge in hotels.”
Police have assured the public that the autopsy results will guide their next line of action and that all leads are being pursued to determine whether the death was purely medical or if foul play was involved.
