46-Year-Old Woman Busted at Kotoka Airport with 30 Slabs of Cannabis Hidden in Cargo

A 46-year-old Ghanaian woman has been arrested by operatives of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for attempting to traffic a large quantity of cannabis through the airport’s cargo section.

The arrest was made on the night of Tuesday, June 11, 2025, at the Swissport consolidated cargo terminal, following a tip-off received by NACOC operatives. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, officers intercepted a consignment allegedly linked to the suspect.

Upon a thorough inspection of the packages, NACOC officials discovered thirty (30) well-wrapped slabs of compressed dried cannabis. The drugs had been cleverly concealed among other personal belongings and items intended for shipment. The total weight of the seized cannabis is reported to be approximately 16.4 kilograms.

The suspect, whose name is being withheld for security and investigative reasons, was immediately placed under arrest and is currently in the custody of NACOC. She is said to be cooperating with investigators as they work to uncover the full network behind the attempted drug trafficking operation.

In a statement issued by the Commission, authorities reiterated their commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking activities at all ports of entry and exit in Ghana. The seized narcotics are undergoing forensic analysis while efforts are underway to trace the origin and intended destination of the consignment.

NACOC further cautioned the public against engaging in illegal drug-related activities, emphasizing the severe consequences under Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019), which criminalizes the possession, transportation, and export of banned substances.

The Commission assured that the suspect will be processed for court once investigations are concluded.

This arrest adds to the growing list of recent drug interceptions made at KIA, underscoring the vigilance and proactive intelligence efforts by NACOC in the fight against narcotics trafficking across the country.
