37-Year-Old Man in Police Custody for Stealing GH¢400,000 Hyundai Mighty Truck

The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Emmanuel Sarpong, in connection with the theft of a Hyundai Mighty Truck valued at GH¢400,000.
According to a statement issued and signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Bono Regional Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect was arrested on August 6, 2025, and is currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
The arrest follows days of intensive search operations after the truck, with registration number GR-6552-24, was reported stolen from Baakoniaba, a suburb of the Sunyani Municipality, on July 30, 2025. Acting swiftly on intelligence, police were able to trace the stolen vehicle to Akim Oda in the Eastern Region.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Emmanuel Sarpong had removed the original number plates from the vehicle and had converted the truck for commercial use. He allegedly used the vehicle until it broke down due to mechanical issues.
Police said the breakthrough came through an intelligence-led undercover operation conducted by officers from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID). The suspect reportedly attempted to sell the stolen truck and was arrested when he appeared at a meeting to collect payment from a prospective buyer.
“The suspect was apprehended through an intelligence-led undercover operation by a team from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), when he turned up at a location to receive payment for the truck he had put up for sale,” the statement noted.
The police have since retrieved the vehicle and returned it to Sunyani, where it is being kept as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have assured the public of their commitment to clamp down on vehicle theft syndicates and are urging citizens to promptly report suspicious activities to aid law enforcement efforts.
