2025 WASSCE Abysmal performance due to students reliance on “apor”- Dunkwahene.

The Chief of Dunkwa, Okoforbour Nuako Obeng III has disclosed that Ghana’s abysmal performance in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is as a result of students reliance on “apor”, illegal and unethical practice of using leaked exam materials during examination, hence students not focusing diligently on their studies as well as not trusting in their own abilities.

Speaking at the last Akwasidae celebration of the calendar year at the Obeng Nuako Ahenfie in Dunkwa-on-Offin last Sunday, the chief also indicated that banning of corporal punishment in school is contributing factor to the dreadful performance in this year’s WASSCE,
Explaining that corporal punishment helps in motivating students as well building their character, thus it motivates learning and shapes character for success, and it also help discipline students and maintain order, hence advocating for its reintroduction into our educational system.

Dunkwahene has therefore advise students to shun the “normalised” practice of relying on “apor” to pass their respective examinations, but rather focus on diligently on their studies and trust their potential, further advising “unscrupulous” teacher who aid in providing apor to students during examination to desist from such, because can be jailed when caught, and also urging educational authorities to endeavour to salvage our educational system, because its taken a “nosedive”.
Okoforbour Obeng indicated that Dunkwa is a calibre of town that requires the presence of a University, therefore announcing that the Dunkwa Divisional Council (DDC) has earmarked a vast land for such purpose,
Noting that they (DDC) with open arms are ready for any educational institution, who is ready to establish a university at Dunkwa-on-Offin.

Dunkwahene also called on government to prioritise roads in the Dunkwa enclave, especially Dunkwa to Obuasi, which is very vital in the livelihood of residents.
Okoforbour Obeng advised the youth to abstain from the use of drugs and other vices, as well as advising drivers to be caution on the roads during and after the festive season.
The Upper Denkyira East Chief Executive Officer, George Anane Coleman, who graced the occasion, thanked Dunkwahene and the DDC for their recommendation during his nomination as well as support after his confirmation.
The Chief Executive disclosed that following engagement with the municipal’s educational authorities, it was established that teachers collect “apor fees” from students to aid them in during examination, a practice, the MCE disclosed would not be condone anymore,
Adding that he had engaged with teachers in the municipality and advised them on the repercussions of such act, such a jail term and urged them (teachers) to endeavour to make students learn rather than relying on “apor”.
Hon. Coleman announced that the Assembly has funds for the construction of a 24-hour market, to be situated at Dunkwa, under the District developmental projects, also disclosing that letters has been sent to the appropriate quarters for equipments to reclaim old galamsey sites.


Addressing the road issues within the municipality, the Chief Executive disclosed that most of parts of the falls within other jurisdiction, making it complex to address, assuring Nananom that the Assembly would in it own tackle the feeder roads within the municipality, especially Atekyemu to Boamponsem stretch,
Noting that with the help of the Member of Parliament, the Assembly is pushing for the Obuasi-Ayanfuri Road to be added to the “Big Push” Road Project, disclosing the Dunkwa-Buabeng road has been selected for the ten kilometres road to constructed for every district in the country by the government.

Hon. Coleman also announced that two borehole water has been constructed at Nuako and Nyano Estates, at the instance of Okoforbour, with Boakyekrom’s borehole drilling to commence this week,
He also announced that the Assembly has initiated an operation dubbed “All drain must flow”, to ensure that all drainage system in the municipality flows to avoid disasters and sanitation levels is at par within the municipality. END.
